Fresh from his recent performance at Capital FM’s Summertime Ball, where he sang alongside stars including Robbie Williams, Taylor Swift and Jessie J, hit songmaker Charlie Brown delighted RNOH visitors and patients yesterday when he arrived to officially start the 11th annual Buttercup Walk.
Approximately 200 people took part in this year's Walk, bringing hundreds more with them as guests. The Matron's Lawn area was, as always, a hive of activity, with visitors enjoying rides, games, stalls, and great food outlets - all to a soundtrack of toe-tapping live music provided by Fox River Conspiracy.
Sharon Ross, whose daughter Bethany was treated for a rare form of Sarcoma in her leg, said, “We had a great time and really wanted to be part of such a great event for such a fantastic cause. Without this hospital my daughter would not be here and without the fantastic treatment and surgery she received, I would not be able to watch her perform today. She is a dancer and RNOH made it possible for her to be able to dance again, live her dream and continue to live a full and happy life. We cannot thank this hospital enough for their hard work, friendly manner, expertise, care and support.”
So far the 2013 Buttercup Walk has raised more than £20,000. Charlie Brown said: “When I heard about the Walk, I didn’t hesitate saying yes to my involvement. It was an honour being asked to be a part of an incredible cause.
"I had a great time at the RNOH yesterday. It was probably one of the most inspiring events I’ve ever been involved with. Seeing what some of those patients have overcome, and participating in a fantastic event with huge smiles on their faces was amazing. Their efforts have helped raise vital funds to improve patient care at the RNOH and ensure the hospital has the best facilities possible.”
We hope to see you all at Buttercup Walk 2014!
